The small feather-leaved Phoenix — mini date palm, pygmy date palm, same tree. Fine-textured, slow, and easy to place where a big palm would not fit.
Roebelenii tops out around three metres and takes many years to get there, so a specimen with real trunk on it represents time rather than size. Small enough to move without heavy gear, which keeps it affordable.
The palm for tight spots — courtyards, poolside, either side of a door. Fine fronds, no bulk, and it will not outgrow the position.
Very common in Adelaide courtyards and pool surrounds. Worth rescuing whenever there is decent trunk under the crown.
